RE: Dodge 7 pin wiring

Good grief...........2 hours, soldering, splicing and scotchlocks??? What you guys want is right here.
Should take about 15 minutes.
While that is a nice looking plug and play,
I would reather spend the 2 hours or what ever time it takes to splice and solder into the factory harness thus keeping my wiring run as short as possible. JMHO
??? Wouldn't short as possible be the factory socket at the bumper. Unless you're going to go upstream on the harness to splice in, but now we are being a little silly.

RE: LT 245/75 R16 tire replacements on my GMC DA 2500

not true on the warranty-
They sell brand new trucks on the lot all the time with larger tires, lifts...
Dealer installed is dealer warranted.

RE: LT 245/75 R16 tire replacements on my GMC DA 2500

Get them...Magnuson Moss ring a bell...
The MMA is to protect the consumer from a manfacturer requiring you use their product, oil filters, fluids and such. It is not to protect the consumer who is using power adders, oversize tires, and the like.
Now if he runs oversize tires and his mirror falls off, they cant deny that claim. Any drivetrain or suspension problems? They most certainly can and may deny that claim. Running an oversize tire will change the gear ratio, GM designed and tested the truck to run with those tires at that gear ratio. Change them and its a******shoot as to whether or not they will honor the warranty should a problem arise. You have to pay to play.
But to answer the original question, 265's are run on alot of GM trucks.......not mine.......

RE: Dodge 7 pin wiring

Why bother?
My 5ers cord works fine in the bumper recepticle.
I'm with you, but some people are afraid to rub their paint.....or so I'm told.
Seems like another plug in the bed is just more contacts to service and more wiring to fool with..........at any rate I sure wouldnt be splicing the factory harness if I had to have one in the bed.

RE: 2005 Silverado's

Its not only the 2005, I have a 2004 with the same problem. Do a web search for GM intermediate shaft, more info than youll want to read. Problem has been around for a while, there appears to be no "cure".......only temporary fixes. Ive learned to just ignore it.....so far.

RE: New hitch suggestions.

By the way, the people that did change out their hitch, did you install it yourself? If so did you have any problems that you encountered or care to share some tips that you may have after the fact?
Yes I did it by myself. Shimmied under the truck pressed it up and rested one end on my knees while I started a bolt on the other end.........STUPID way to do it, Im too old for that nonsense. Get some help and use a torque wrench.
Most hitches re-use the 14mm bolts behind the bumper where it attaches to the frame, locktite them when you torque them back in. Mine kept working loose every few hundred miles until I pulled them back out and locktited them. All the other bolts in my kit had lockwashers/flangenuts and never worked loose.
Put the electrical plug in the bumper, on the drivers side of the license plate, like the newest body style GM trucks.

RE: New hitch suggestions.

Bit a new newbie question here but "why" would you replace the factory hitch on your GM 2500? Aren't you within the capacity for the vehicle?
There were apparent QC problems on some of these hitches, combined with people not reading their owners manuals causing some hitch bending/failures. As such there is now a stigma (actually paranoia) surrounding the OEM hitch.
To be clear, I replaced mine due to lack of capacity and wear.........I tend to be hard on my stuff.
Chadsalt... I've got about 50,000 miles of towing a 7500 LB trailer on my 1500 Denali XL and don't see any "wear"... other than it being hard on the tires and air shocks are starting to leak a bit... but the hitch structure looks fine.
What sort of "wear" do you see on your hitch?
My new to me 04 2500HD Dmax had 20K on it when I got it. The guy who had it before me hauled some sort of trailer most of those 20K......using a bent/"L" style hitch pin. It "egged" out the hole on one side.

RE: Tekonsha controllers, anything better in same price range?

The P3 has the amp display avaliable, also you do not have to hold the manual lever and turn the dial to adjust the power........just press the up or down button. Made (use the MaxBrake now) a difference to me, I tow alot of different trailers. Well worth the few extra $$, to me anyway.
The Valley Odyssey II also caught my eye, but I dont have any actual experience with it.
At the same web site the new Hayes G2 also looks interesting.

RE: Tow/haul mode

I've been to the GM factory training classes on Allisons, they were part of the master certification hanging on my wall. I knew it was actually a six speed when people were gaga over a five speed. I was stating he was in sixth and the converter locked up, I wasn't clear enough.
If yours isn't going into sixth until 68+, your foot's too deep in the throttle or loaded very heavy. All ranges are available and are load/speed dependant.
You take it out of TH under those conditions, and you'll be coming to see me for an overhaul. Not that I haven't fixed several of them.
No, you were not clear enough, now it is.
Yes, its loaded heavy and technically I said around 68 mph.
No, I dont "take it out of TH under those conditions", just played with it a little. I dont have the confusion as to when to press the "button with the trailer on it" that seems to be so common on these forums......
I was talking about the 06 at work. But on my 04 in T/H it wont shift into 5th until ~53 mph no matter the load or speed???? Maybe I need to play with the 06 some more if youre saying all ranges sould be avaliable.

RE: Tow/haul mode

You're not shifting from 5th to 6th. When you turn off the tow/haul it then locks up the torque converter dropping the RPM. And yes, it tranmits more load to the engine causing your mileage drop.
If you don't believe me, count the shifts. There will be five gear changes.
Apparently you are unfamiliar with the Allison transmission.........it is a 6 speed. And to hit 6th you have to be running ~68 mph to get 6th in T/H........or take it out of T/H.

RE: Ford Placing F150 4.4 Liter Diesel On Ice!!!!!

With the price of diesel fuel, diesel engines are not even the clear cut winner anymore in the 3/4 ton+ market.....where you may actually need the power.
In the 1/2 ton world with the gas engines being plenty powerful to handle the tow ratings, diesel makes no sense. I would be surprised if ANY of the manufacturers bring a diesel 1/2 ton to market.

RE: Towing Extra Large Toy Haulers

I still dont see the problem, without actual numbers (not thats its anybodys business but his own anyway) this is just a bunch of weight police patting each other on their collective backs. Business as usual I guess.
With a trailer GVWR of 18K, a pin of 3600# is certainly feasible. With 265 tires he MAY even be within the rear axle specs..............

RE: Towing Extra Large Toy Haulers

I know a guy like that here, too. '05 Chevy K2500 Duramax, pulling an 18K GVWR tri-axle toy hauler. The truck's wheels are BLACK. They're supposed to be chrome; it's all brake dust...
The only difference here is this guy recognizes that he's got way too much trailer for his truck.
Brake dust only proves either he doesnt wash his truck, or his trailer brakes are no good................

RE: break smart break controller

Thanks for the reply ksd I have seen your pic's before, they are the reason why I was interested in the BreakSmart. I have a 2005 Sub with the 8.1 and 3.73 rear, but maybe will upgrade to the 4.10's depending on final choice of trailer. You say the install was pretty easy and I have heard the same. I could probable do it myself as as well, I just can't get over the price for the unit. Maybe I'll just bight the bullet and spend the dough and do it. Please don't be surprised if you get a PM on how to fish the line. The install looks great.
Don't take this wrong, get over it. Not that you 'need' it for safety, but let's look at the whole picture. How many THOUSANDS of dollars have you spent in the truck and trailer? Now compare that to $450..........
The Prodigy is probably overpriced for what it is also, as is the MaxBrake I'm using.............but of all the $$$ you've spent so far you will not regret this $450.
